HEART HEALTH - The heart and vascular system is one of the largest and most important body systems. The cardiovascular system’s primary functions are to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the body’s cells and to aid in removing cellular waste products. Blood must constantly be pumped through the body’s blood vessels and to accomplish this, the heart beats about 100,000 times every day, which in an average lifetime, adds up to a total of 2.5 billion beats. Even while you are sleeping, your heart pumps 30 times its own weight each minute, which amounts to more than 14,000 liters of blood in a day. For all of its strength, the heart is relatively small (roughly the same size as your closed fist) and is susceptible to diseases (cardiovascular disease is a global health issue and contributes to nearly one third of deaths worldwide). So how can we support this vital organ, in order to have a healthy heart? Lifestyle choices, dietary changes and nutritional supplements are a very good way to start.
